The axle springs on my '16 touring are tapered, with a "bubble" in them near the ends. I assume this contained something to reduce friction between the leaves. What was put in the recess created by the "bubble"?
Also, when was this phased out?
Thanks

David,
Those 'Bubble' springs were made by the Detroit Spring Works initially and the Bubble was to hold a supply of grease. When Dodge Brothers began making their own springs there was a patent on that bubble and theirs were simply tapered with rounded ends. This transition was as near as I can tell late '15 mid '16. Good Luck.
