Post subject:  Oil pan Re-do - RTV vs paper gaskets?

I just dropped the oil pan on my 1923 Touring - again, because of mistakes I made the first time about a year and a half ago. I failed to mate the front felt properly, and it essentially fell out into the pan. And, my oil pump leaked at the cover plate.
First go round I used regular old school gaskets, both on the pan and the oil pump cover. I'm thinking this time to use RTV instead - any opinions out there?

My thinking is it may put the rod dippers too close to the tray in the oil pan. I always use gaskets.

The RTV may get into oil pan if applied to heavy. Not sure where it would end up.
Best to use a gasket.

I appreciate this feedback. 18 mos ago I scraped the decades-old "paper" type gasket, coulda been ? the original. I went back with modern fel-pro "paper" type that I made myself from a sheet roll I bought at NAPA. Did any of you use cork-style instead? Certainly thicker material.

I have always used thin cork.

My job is done - here's what I chose to do:
I made cork gaskets for the pan, used a glaze of RTV on the pan side. Let that set prior to re-assy.
Initially - I also made a cork gasket for oil pump cover. I reassembled, I did prime (but maybe not enough), upon re-start I had zero pressure on gauge. Got some advice that the cork prob'ly too thick for pump cover. Removed cover and went back to Felpro "paper", with a very light glaze of RTV on cover side. Re-assembled, primed A LOT, also primed the oil gauge line from its union near firewall. Re-start, bam I have 4 lbs at modest idle. woo hoo
The whole point of this job was, I had leaky oil pump cover, and bad felt job front end of pan 1.5 yrs ago - so we'll see.
