I filed the “ears” of the flange and put the carb together, then back on with a cork gasket — seemed the most spongy option for filling up space. Then I managed to cross-thread the flare coupling during hook-up! So I have been running all over town trying to replace the bits I damaged unnecessarily. Now when I am so ready I have decided I need a proper flaring tool — the one I have is ill-fitting junk. But the plumbers are closed Sunday. This week the car should be running again.

Had the Dodge out tonight — finally! It should have more power now that the throttle valve is not half falling off. Still tinkering with idle speed and enrichment. NEXT QUESTION: Do these carbs stay cold all the time? The gooseneck into the block actually froze with condensate when the car started, and even after ten minutes driving around, it was very cold to the touch. Don’t these carbs warm up? I have a cork gasket connecting carb to block, and it seems to be sealing adequately. Thanks, all, for advice and parts.

Usually when the carb ices it is too lean. Where do you have the ring in back of the carb adjusted? It may need to be closed more to get more heated air from the exhaust manifold. Is the timing set correctly as in the Book of Information?
