Mike, looks like your carb has issues. Can you post a picture of the whole thing?

I have an extra carb if it comes to that.
If Doug isn't able to help message me and I'll see if we can get it sent to you.

Mike, I am not sure what the copper ring is inside your block. Was it there before when the car ran? With it removed the carb will fit inside like it should. The gasket seals on surface where the flange is for the bolts not on the diameter that goes into the block. I hope you have the bolt that holds the carb together. They are a special thread I have not been able to find. Most people stuff a 1/4 - 20 in there, which is not correct. I have an extra one if you don't have it. And, do you have a vacuum tank or pressurized system?

Interesting about the brass ring inside block: it is so well installed it seems to me original. Is there a chance that the early 1915s had a smaller mouth carb? And that I have a later carb too big to fit? I don’t have the Stewart carb book: would appreciate if someone could check. Merci from Canada. Mike

Mike, I measured several carbs I have, both early and late. They all measure between 1.780 and 1.800 with a caliper. The block openings measure 1.81. The carb does not seal there, that's why the clearance. It seals on the carb gasket with two holes in it. Was this ring in there when the engine ran? The carb, like you have, was only used a short time with the throttle plate where it is. Must be an early '15 with air pump?

Thank you. I am going downstairs to try to pry out that ring. Can somebody explain the air tube at the top? On mine it has been bolted shut.

That is where someone drilled a hole for a vacuum tank. That is why I asked if you have vacuum tank or air pump and if this car has run in your possession. This style carb top did not have that hoe for a vacuum tank.

Now I see the issue too. You could use a thick gasket and I would not be afraid to do that. Best would be either have that surface machined or replace it. Those top pieces are hard to find in good condition. I do not have one. Sure would like to see you go back to the pressurized system. It works quite well. DO you have the hand pump and the air pump from the engine?

My car has the air pump. Not set up, however — instead there is an electric fuel pump.

The dash has the plunger pump, and the mechanical pump is still present on the engine, complete with tubes, though I haven’t followed them, apart from one up to the gauge on the dash.
