Post subject:  1932 depot hack floor
I have a 1932 depot hack (f10 chassis.) I need to replace the front floor. I was looking for some reference as to what would have been the floor design. Plywood, planks, if so what material. I think I have a Cantrell body, no label found yet, so I am unclear if the front floor was dodge supplied and or Cantrell modified. either way what would have been the design from Dodge? Would Cantrell have changed it?
If anyone has pictures of the, a floor I would love to see them.

Paul, what is in there now? I don't think plywood was used that early. You do realize you may have the only car like this?

Right now it has plywood, which is in poor shape. It was painted black, had rubber mat nailed on it, and is de-laminating.
I was thinking that, of 2 scenarios, one Dodge supplied the front floor with the chassis to the coach builder and that was left as is by the coach builder. SO it would be what ever the f10's got. Or the coach builder replace what was there with their own floor. The rear, under and behind the front seat, are all planks. The current forward of the front seat is plywood.

If the first is true what was Dodge putting down on the f10 for floors? I had heard that Dodge started using plywood in the 20's.

And as you said Doug mine is totally unique and there is no answer, in which case I will go with planks.

Paul, it is only a guess on my part but I would guess wood plank. I have never seen a DB with wood on one end and steel the other. My newest car is a '29 DA which has wood front and rear. Of all the scanning I have done i have not seen specific literature to Cantrells that new. Have you looked through the invoices and sales contracts on the left? Several of the contracts were for Cantrell bodied DBs as they were close to the dealer in NY. I THINK they will answer your question about bumpers too. All I have seen are written out as front or rear bumpers, no numbers. They were an option pretty late and made by outside contractors. I have not seen anything from DB parts books that I can remember in '32 or earlier. I am positive they were listed for '29 and '30 as an option. In the invoices very few were specified. The contracts were from close to NYC, money. And the invoices were from Ohio, farmers.

My '28 Suburban by Cantrell has planks. There are two forward of the seat where your feet go. They come out as one piece. The aft one is 9 1/2 inches and the forward one is 5 inches. All the planks aft of those are 7 3/8 wide. They are all 3/4" thick. And they look like they are original.
I tried to post pictures earlier but couldn't. I'll try again one more time.

thanks Darryl that is very helpful. Doug I was not thinking metal only either plywood or planks. Its looking like planks are the way to go. I will look through the contracts and see what I can find.

The Cantrell article in the April issue of Hemmings Classic cars stated that Cantrell also used linoleum on the floors in the twenty's. Restoration Supply Company sells period correct linoleum.
Personally, I like the bare wood.
