I've read what to use but would also seek experience advice Any one care to offer what they have used. I've heard 90 weight and two tubes of axle grease Any comments. Sometime if interested I'll tell what I've learned about installing oil pans

What year model?
Pre and early 30’s trans did not have bearing seals so heavy grease is required.
The term is “steam oil” that is 600 wt. Check with Restoration Supply. Also there is a discussion on the AACA Forum. Do a search under trans oil.
What motor do you have? I will be installing an oil pan on a 29 Dodge DA 6.

Shop around for the 600W (not wt). Like Snyders or Langs.

As mentioned, the question is what year and model are you discussing. there are different requirements as time progresses. From the beginning and up to '26 the countershaft assy is physically disconnected and the tranny lube must have sufficient viscosity to provide motion to that countershaft. A literal description is 'Semi-fluid grease'. An early formula was 2 parts 600 Wt Steam Cylinder oil with 1 part medium grease. The nearest equivalent is 1500 Wt . After the tranny design changed to a more modern S.A.E. design that viscosity reduced to around 600 Wt. up to late '28. Later models into the 30s reduced to 90Wt. So it matters which tranny you are talking about.
