I has a 32 f-10 depot hack. My oil pressure is running at about 18-20 all warmed up at 30 MPH, should be 30-35. I have rebuild the oil pump and cleaning the oil pan, which was very clean anyway. I am also running 40W oil. I have no smoke, #70 compression on all 6 cylinders and runs good other wise. I hav no history on the engine and it has 82K miles on the odometer.

My thought is to attempt a bearing swap only without having to pull the engine. Has anyone done this? Are there any know gotchas?

I will take any opinions.

I would not fix it until it's broke. Drive it and have fun, 18-20 is not bad.

Thanks Doug, I have been getting other advice to the contrary. What pressure should I be concerned at then?

MY OPINION, if it got down around 10 I might be concerned. It would depend on the sound and performance.

Did you try a different gauge and adjusted pressure regulator ?

yep, I connected an external oil pressure gauge which proved the dodge gauge to be accurate.

I can not see journals leaking that much . Are you sure the regulator is assembled and working correctly . Remember it work inversely , It reliefs / dumps the extra fluid / pressure down to crank case reservoir . That horizontal journal is first place oil from pump goes . Unless you have a filter ?

Another though , to thick of gasket put in oil pump causing leakage of pressure . may need to find way to test its output pressure .

Thanks Tom, I have had the pressure relieve valve spring and plunger out and made sure it has clear travel. Mine is adjustable. The first time I had it out I found a nut inserted in by someone, I assume, for added pressure to the spring and the adjustment all the way tight. I have removed the nut and tried the adjuster at many points in the shaft and had no appreciable change. When I start the engine cold the pressure is at 60+ and as it warms up drops to 15+. Using 30W or 40W oil made no appreciable difference. I find the fact that cold the pressure is at 60+ strange because I assumed the relief valve should keep that down.

And the oil pump gasket was really thin. When the oil got on it it was almost translucent.

Well I do not know then . What kind of oil you using straight weight or hd , synthetic or other . i use the Rotella 15w -40 and run on the numbers . That thirty psi is when on the pedal at 30 mph not coasting . Then will drop to those lower numbers .

thanks for the advice. I am running 40W straight. And it made no difference

Can you compare the spring to another engine like yours? Maybe the spring broke and the nut was a bandaid? IF it has the proper parts in the relief valve and still has 10-15 I personally would let it alone as long as it sounds OK. Where are you in the redoing of your car, beginning, finished? How many miles do you plan to put on it when finished? Guaranteed if you pull it apart you will find other things that maybe should be done, soon you will have $5000 in the engine that may have lasted as long as you wanted it to.

I was going to get a new spring and see if there is a difference. Ye the cost is a concern that starting an engine job would spiral into a 4-5K job. I have no information on what has been done prior. So no clue on valve guides, I am adding lead additive. It sounds really good and quiet, starts easy, runs up to 30-35 no problem. I have no idea on the clutch condition or trans other than the seem to work fine. There are no serious leaks or smoke. With a 4.66 rear end it will not be chucking down the highway.

I have done only superficial work like gas tank and lines, carb, fuel pump. complete brake system replacement. Rear end and axles pulled and cleaned up. Pinion gear has a chip but seams ok, I had it checked and opinions were that its good, they cleaned of the rough edge. I did eventually find a replacement so I am ready if needed.

New front floors and other repairs on the wood parts of it.

I do need to do a new wiring harness.
