My 23 Dodge Brothers roadster shift lever is too close my leg when in reverse. I literally have to squeeze myself up to the door to get it into reverse. I want to remove it (if I have to) and bend it to a more suitable location. There is a lock screw and and adjustable inner collar holding it in place.
Can I remove it simply by undoing it? Or is it under spring pressure?
Any help id appreciated!

Put the transmission in neutral. Take out the set screw then unscrew the retaining collar, remove the packing. The shift lever just lifts out.
